It's been a crazy couple of days. Lexi's surgery went very well yesterday. Dr. Standard took some bone from Lexi's iliac crest (pelvic bone), for her bone graft. Lexi needed a little bit more bone graft than Dr. Standard expected. The good news is that in children, the bone grows back! Dr. Standard also removed the wire that was keeping Lexi's ankle stable from her superankle procedure (doc said her ankle looks great!) He then replaced that wire with a titanium wire that goes alongside her tibia, which should help the bone heal faster.
We stayed in the hospital last night, just to make sure Lexi's pain was manageable. Lexi was discharged at about 1pm today, and now we're back at the hotel.
Our plan is to start driving back home in the morning, provided Lexi does well through the night. Lexi will have x-rays taken in 4 weeks.
Here's a couple of pics of Lexi before and after surgery.
Love to all!
